Wiki Best Practices

Barbara Schroeder states in her blog, 10 Best Practices for using wikis in education, that “just because you build a wiki, doesn’t mean they will come.”

Often times, we get caught up in using technology to impress our students. We forget about making sure that we have a sound educational reason for using the technology.

# 6 on her list is to assign meaningful, authentic activities. She suggests that this should be part of all learning experiences.

#7 is to include a common goal for collaboration activities. One of the biggest reasons a teacher would choose a wiki is for the collaboration feature. Make sure that your students understand what it means to collaborate. They need to understand that no one person is responsible for the content.
